Hello,
I’m Pauline, a London-based audio engineer and composer. I work with artists, producers, and directors to make their sonic ideas reality.
Born in Toronto, I grew up Chinese-Canadian, with ancestry from Hong Kong. Classically-trained in various instruments, I graduated in piano performance with a diploma from The Royal Conservatory of Music, having studied under Olga Kostrinsky. Eventually, I found myself heavily drawn to the eclectic diversity of the London/Berlin scene, particularly in RnB, jazz, and the possibilities of electronic music. In 2022, I moved to the UK permanently and fell in love with the craft of manipulating sound along with its community of people. Since, as an engineer, I’ve worked on projects across a large variety of genres, from pop, jazz, film, rock, bluegrass, and more - regularly collaborating with with musicians, directors, producers, and multimedia artists. Under a personal project, I have an EP released, titled ‘The Stillness After Daybreak’.
Currently, I am based at Angel Studios, ENVY Post Production, the Royal Ballet & Opera, Abbey Road Institute and Audio Always, in addition to freelancing.
My biggest musical influences are Volker Bertelmann, Maurice Ravel, Daigo Hanada, Massive Attack, Sade, RAYE, Daniel Blumberg, Fontaines D.C., and Max Richter.
Aims
Maximising clarity and emotional impact are my primary goals as an engineer. Invisibly combining musical understanding with technical expertise, so that the client can feel confident that their art is represented in the most raw and honest way…
My responsibility is to make my clients feel secure through reliable technical skills and reassuring communication. There is nothing worse than having poured your heart into something, only for the engineer to either be unprepared or ship the stems to you after months of silence. Transparent communication, clear deliverables and confidentiality are important for me to offer to creators that are sharing their vulnerable and sensitive works.
When working alongside a team, besides bringing my strong sense of work ethic and reliability, I try to maintain a sensitivity towards the room’s atmosphere and practice my ability to quietly predict others’ needs. Remembering a client’s preferences, even their preferred coffee or pastry, can go a long way!
Personal Projects
Besides audio, I am also a visual artist. I have an upcoming exhibition titled ‘Miss Grumps’ at AVALON Café in June 2026, home to the eclectic @grainresidency.
In my spare time, I am conducting a study on the intrinsically generative sound, by assigning variable parameters to visually static objects. I’m also preparing for my first ever 7.5K run at the Amsterdam Marathon this autumn!
Let’s make something cool!
If you have an upcoming project in mind, or if you’d like to work together in general, I’d love to hear from you.
